Algorithms Exercises with Solutions
After several years of teaching the "Algorithmics" module in the first year of the Bachelor's degree (Computer Science) and considering the difficulties encountered by students in this module, we tried to provide them with a valuable learning resource to conquer the intricacies of Algorithmics. This book represents the culmination of our efforts, comprising a comprehensive collection of over 120 exercises meticulously designed to cover the entire curriculum of the first year. Our primary objective is to empower students and equip them with the necessary skills to master Algorithmics effectively. The proposed exercises are diverse and of varying degrees of difficulty, ranging from fundamental introductory exercises to problems that are more complex. They encompass mathematical calculations, geometry, data retrieval, management, and more. The book is organized into six chapters, following the curriculum of the Algorithmics module. In Chapter 1, "Control Structures" exercises are proposed using only control structures (selection and repetition statements) as well as basic types and actions. Chapter 2, "Arrays (Vectors-Matrices-Strings)" introduces the data structure of arrays in one and two dimensions, as well as the string structure. In this chapter, various exercises are offered, covering vectors, matrices, sorting algorithms, data search algorithms, and other applications. Chapter 3, "Parameterized Functions," presents procedures and functions. A wide variety of exercises is presented in this chapter, dealing with widely used functions. In Chapter 4, "Records" we introduce a new data structure with a few application exercises. This chapter contains the fewest exercises, as this structure will be used again in the following chapters. Chapter 5, "Sequential Files" presents numerous exercises dealing with sequential file type. Finally, Chapter 6, "Pointers and Linked Lists" concludes the book with a variety of practical exercises. We recognize that learning is a continuous process; we strongly encourage students to use this book as a tool for growth and exploration. By carefully approaching each exercise, comparing their solutions with the provided ones, and actively participating in tutorial sessions, students can extract the full potential of this learning resource. We sincerely hope that this book serves as a guiding light, illuminating the path to algorithmic mastery, and nurturing a positive and rewarding learning experience for each student. Happy learning!
